Service ok and the food was just ok. My uncle ordered a Reuben sandwich and it was burnt. I ordered a sandwich that had turkey meat with a cranberry relish on a hoagie roll...it was delicious but the sandwich itself was more snack size than dinner size. It's nice for the convenience of customers staying at Hotel Alex Johnson, but if someone asked where to go, this would not be a suggestion.

GREAT service from Mikey. He actually recovered the night and we haven't had our food as of yet. The knuckle head red is full-bodied and local; the Irish cream beer is light and refreshing.....Mikey recommended them since I'm not a beer drinker and he hit it on the mark. After a long day of driving I'm happy we met Mikey at Paddy's!!

I ordered a pint of ale and they served me about a cup. I'll upload a photo. When the bartender set the half glass of beer down I asked if he was done pouring, and he just looked at me. When the foam settled I asked if that was a pint and he just shrugged. Later I saw one of the waitstaff pour several "pints" and she made sure they were all down about 4 ounces from the top, so they must be trained to pour short. Otherwise waitstaff were a little slow, standing around talking to friends instead of checking on customers. Food was OK.

Great neighborhood-style bar with great selection of beers and liquors. The best part: it's quiet! There are TV's with sports, but it lacks that noisy, sports bar feel. Great for a meeting with colleagues or drinks with friends.

So, I was pretty hungry when I went in. I save my appetite for the "Shepard's Pie". I thought it was terrible. It was a glob of mashed pots in an extremely salty brown sauce with a few carrots and peas. The service was good. The food I ate really wasn't great.

Adequate food. Nothing special. CRAPPY service. And it kinda smells like sour milk. AVOID.

We ate lunch here. The food was bland and the service was VERY poor. However, they do have a good select of beer.

Paddys is our little home away from home. It's by far the best, friendliest, and least trashy downtown pub. Has a homey/divey feel without being sticky and disgusting. We love all of our bartenders, the strong/good drinks, and the chicken tenders are AMAZING. Best place to start and end a night. The only complaint I have is the live music is often too loud.

The only upside this bar has is it's food. Out of all the bars in Rapid, and yes, I've been to every one, this place has some of the RUDEST staff I've ever came across! The first time I had a bad experience I thought maybe it was just the night and a cranky bartender. Nope. Tried it two other times and after my third experience, I've decided not to return here anymore. I'd rather pay $200 a year for the Vertex solely so I can avoid this bar and it's employees. Bartenders will roll their eyes and get an attitude if you order a mixed drink that involves more then 2 ingredients. Just a heads up. I tried ordering something fruity for my girlfriend and the bartender actually told me no and helped someone else.

What can I say other then it's not really a bar unless a fight breaks out. It's a bar with an Irish theme some shamrocks and other paraphernalia with good service. Food is decent and on some nights there is live music. Oddly enough I'm a Floridian and was "the duke" of this place for a year . Oh and the fight some pieces of ice were thrown and the phrase would you like to step outside was said. A few punches and a tackle later it was over. Cops were called but the 2 street fighters had already left.

I'm about as much a "regular" of this place as you can get. And like the cheering section to the "little train that could" I keep hoping it will get better. And in a sense, it did! They redesigned the food/snacks menu, and I couldn't be MORE pleased. Our group tried every one of the new appetizers and for the most part was pleased. There are hand-crafted (as opposed to pre-made frozen from a distributor) appetizers now. For example, you can get a dish that's a new take on nachos, Alfredo sauce on crips won-tons, which was spicey and interesting at least. You get fairly large portions which are handy if you want to split with friends. The cheese sticks are a combination of a jack cheese and a mozz. They also have an interesting take on the "popper" which is made with won ton wraps. The bacon wrapped shrimp are just OK, but what do you expect in South Dakota? The only thing lacking now is that the manager needs to SCHEDULE more bartenders. Two bartenders also doubling as cocktail waitstaff for 60+ people is moronic. So expect to wait. You'll get waited on eventually, and the waitstaff is friendly. At least they've fixed the food problems for now. So for that, I cheer, "Yay!"

Very good little pub tucked away at the bottom of the Alex Johnson Hotel. The service was very good, the staff was very friendly, and the drinks are relatively inexpensive. I would definitely go back here again and again especially during the summer hours where you can sit outside and enjoy downtown.

I think this place is real good for the area its a older Irish Pub with charm being located in the Alex Johnson Historic Hotel, it adds just more character. I think they do a well job at that, I do think they need to offer more Irish beers on Tap being a Irish Bar, but other then that seems they put a local crowd with a mix of the hotel, so a nice balance

On a trip here for work, I discovered this place based on the 2 previous yelpers who reviewed it. As usual, my hotel often sends me on a wild goose chase to places that are bunk... see my review on Murphy's Sport Bar. I really liked Paddy's. It's in the bottom floor of the Alex Johnson hotel right off of 6th street in downtown Rapid City. It was walking distance from my hotel, and had nice outdoor seating. When you walk inside, you see red and wood decor, detailed carvings like you see in old crafted bars. There is a juke box and several nights have live music on a little intimate stage. Tonight was this great bluesy duo of Van Nuys and Fahey. They also have a few small tvs (on which I watched the White Sox get their butts kicked by Milwaukee, followed by sports center). There were several beers on tap, a nice full bar equipped with raspberry infused vodka (for just $5 and NON HAPPY HOUR prices). Part of me is glad I don't live here so that my tolerance for vodka won't build up too quickly. I even met friendly people, locals, and visitors. It was a bit empty, and I made the mistake of leaving to try the "nightlife" at the place my hotel recommended... BOOO HISS! I would have gone back, but wanted to get back to the room and get some sleep... Although, I'm up late writing this review tonight, so I'm not sure how effective that was.

i'm upgrading my "meh" rating to "yay" because they've gotten a lot better over the past year. they now have a nice beer selection (half off on taps on sundays!), exclellent whiskey selection, and an expanded main area. be warned that service will suck when it's busy, so don't waste your time waiting for table service--just shoulder your way to the bar and get it yourself like a grownup. during off-peak hours you'll see much better table service.

I am very blessed to be a part of Paddy O'Neills "regulars" - am totally thrilled to bits on all the changes that have been made and will continue to be made. The bar is always clean, presentable and friendly. Sometimes changes is not good - but in this case, it is awesome!! Love all the bar staff and the new Bar Manager is awesome - can see bigger and better things happenin' in my local for sure!! The other night I had the opportunity to see the bar staff tactfully asking some customers to take their food (that they had brought in) off the table - they even offered them some food from Paddy's - to say the least this table of people were rude and obnoxious to the extreme. I personally saw them with chunks of cheese and toothpicks - how tacky can some people get - really!!!! Bringing food into an establishment that sells food - who would do such a thing!! Anyway, kudos to the bar staff again for taking care of this as nicely as they humanely could.

I and a group of Beard and mustache lovers spend several hours on the 2nd Monday of each month @ Paddy O'neill's pub. We all love the service and prices there and would recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable place to drink.

This is my fave bar in Rapid. I love the ambiance and the Irish feel and they have my fave Irish beers. They also have an excellent selection of Irish whiskey and the bartenders are always really nice. On the weekends they often have live bands and it's one of the few places in Rapid that features live music. It can get pretty crowded here though as it's a small place, but its worth hitting up, especially when I stay at the Alex Johnson, right next to it.

This used to be one of my favorite places to go to when I lived in Rapid City. They had a piano player, free peanuts and pop corn, and decent beer on tap. I also have my pewter mug stored there and my name on a brass plate on one of the benches.
